Round 21 Match Previews Friday, August 24, 2018 - 10:33 AM - by Chris Pike

IT is the final round of the 2018 WAFL season and there remains three teams all capable of snatching fifth position with only one of East Perth, Perth and Peel Thunder to have their seasons continue beyond Saturday evening.

It is set to be quite the exciting conclusion to the home and away season in the WAFL for 2018 and all eyes will be on Bendigo Bank Stadium with the reigning premiers of the last two years, Peel Thunder, hosting East Perth.

It's not quite as simple as saying that the winner between the Thunder and Royals will play finals but it almost is the case.

If East Perth prevails, then they are guaranteed of finals no matter what happens elsewhere and the top five will be set with Subiaco, South Fremantle, West Perth and Claremont already guaranteed of taking part in finals.

If Peel is victorious, then it's most likely the case the Thunder will play finals for a fourth straight year to keep their hopes of a premiership hat-trick alive.

The only other game that can have an impact takes place at Leederville Oval with the undefeated Subiaco hosting Perth. If the Demons can hand the Lions their first loss of 2018, they could reach finals provided Peel also wins and their percentage can remain higher than that of the Thunder.

Summing up, East Perth wins and the Royals are in and Perth and Peel miss out no matter what. A Peel win and the Thunder knock out the Royals. They also knock out the Demons unless Perth wins and then percentage will decide between them and Peel.

There are then two other matches on Saturday as well with Swan Districts facing Claremont at Steel Blue Oval and East Fremantle taking on South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
