Rio Tinto NAIDOC Round 14 Match Previews Friday, July 6, 2018 - 10:17 AM - by Chris Pike

IT is NAIDOC Round in the WAFL this weekend starting with a Grand Final rematch on Friday night before three crucial matches on Saturday with Swan Districts, Claremont, Perth and Peel Thunder locked in battles over the bottom two positions in the top five.

NAIDOC Round has now become an annual celebration in the WAFL in recognition of the contribution that Indigenous footballers have made to the game in Western Australia.

South Fremantle and Claremont first came together to play annually during NAIDOC Week in 2007 and they continue to play each year for the Jimmy Melbourne Cup.

The Bulldogs will again host the Tigers this Saturday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval from 2.40pm with the game broadcast live on 7mate from 2.30pm.

South Fremantle's longest ever serving captain, Ryan Cook, will be celebrating his 150th game as well to earn life membership at the Bulldogs.

The rest of the WAFL has joined in the NAIDOC Week celebrations and all eight teams participating in the Round 14 action will wear specially designed Indigenous themed jumpers.

NAIDOC Round gets underway on Friday night at Leederville Oval with a Grand Final rematch between the unbeaten league-leading Subiaco and the premiers of the last two years, Peel Thunder.

Then to begin proceedings on Saturday afternoon, the bottom placed East Fremantle hosts West Perth at East Fremantle Oval as Falcons ruckman Chris Keunen celebrates his 200th game for the club.

The other Round 14 match sees Swan Districts play Perth at Steel Blue Oval with Swans trying to stay inside the top five and the Demons attempting to break in.
