ROUND 1 of the 2017 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season is in the books with Claremont, Swan Districts, South Fremantle and Peel Thunder all coming away victorious.

All four WAFL Round 1 matches took place on Saturday beginning with Claremont defeating East Fremantle 19.9 (123) to 9.7 (61) at East Fremantle Oval.

Perth made a flying start with eight first quarter goals at Steel Blue Oval but Swan Districts fought back well to end up winning 12.11 (83) to 11.5 (71).

The twilight fixture took place at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with South Fremantle making a strong start and steadying after a Subiaco comeback late in the third quarter to win 17.14 (116) to 11.11 (77).

The final match of the round took place under lights at Leederville Oval and after the teams shared just the two goals in the first half, Peel Thunder kicked five goals to nil in the third term to set up a 7.11 (53) to 4.12 (36) victory over East Perth.

West Perth had the Round 1 bye.
