Fixtures for the 2016 Landmark Country Football Championships have been released with a number of exciting changes set to enhance the program in 2016.

2016 Landmark Fixtures

WA Country Football League General Manager Joe Georgiades said the Championship format had been changed to deliver several benefits to competing teams, while ensuring the strong tradition of representative football continued.

“Some of the key benefits of the changes include more involvement for country communities with games being played in the regions, ensuring the best players are available to represent their League and providing greater development opportunities,” he said.

“We want to deliver a memorable experience for everyone who participates in the Landmark Championships and are confident that these changes will help us deliver this objective.”

Regional Matches

Senior Leagues will play their first match in country WA with a total of six games to be played over the June 17-19 weekend.  This is a great opportunity for country communities to be involved with representative football.

Weekend Format

All Round 2 and 3 senior matches will be played in Perth over the weekend of July 9 and 10, ensuring weekday work commitments do not prevent the best players travelling to the city.

Regional All Stars

The WACFL will be compiling a team of players from non-attending Landmark Leagues.  This will give all country players the opportunity to participate at Landmark and possibly be selected in the State Country side.  Players can register their interest in playing for the Regional All Stars by contacting WACFL Operations Manager Brent Sheridan at bsheridan@wafc.com.au

Players Function

The WACFL will hold a Players function for all Senior players that attend the Championships in Perth. This will be on Saturday evening at East Fremantle Oval and will include best player awards, guest speakers and great networking opportunities.

Colts Grand Final

The Colts will play their grand final as a curtain raiser to the Division 2 Grand Final on Sunday, July 10 at Medibank Stadium. The Regional 15s will also be included into the 2016 Championships.
